It is harder, for sure, and depends on how roomy the shoe is (flip flop, sandal, boot might be easier....dress shoe might be harder or not possible). I would focus on kidney shape when barefoot and focus on gripping and grabbing with foot when shod. Grabbing action is also easier in a roomier shoe.
You will need shoes that allow one to 'Kidney Bean' their foot. I recommend turning a shoe over and taking a look at the sole. The sole that has 'Kidney Bean' shape is much easier to work with.
