Stretchsitting and scoliosis

Hello, Gokhale community,

Because I have a scoliosis and the right side of my back ribcage is more pronounced than the other, when I stretchsit with the cushion, I feel the stretch more strongly on the right side and less on the left since it doesn't reach as well.

Is there something I can do to get a more even stretch?  Will putting a thin towel under the cushion on the left be ok so the left side can grip the cusion better or will this throw something off?

Thank you.

Elspeth

Hello Elspeth,

Yes, you are exactly right! If your back doesn't reach the Stretchsit Cushion on the left side, put a little layer of something under the left side of the Cushion. Be careful not to make it so bulky that it exagerates the existing rotation/curve of your spine, just a little layer to meet your back where it is.

I am so glad you are working with the Stretchsit Cushion! For people with scoliosis, lengthening the spine is the very best thing you can do- Stretchsitting and Stretchlying. The next step will be to bolster that newly aquired length by strengthening appropriate muscles, that's Chapter 5, The Inner Corset.

Happy Stretchsitting!

Thank you, Aurelia.

I am always a bit unsure of things since my brain has a strange idea for "straight."

I am working on the lengthening and the rib anchoring to hold myself more erect and on to the corset.  It sure takes a lot of energy!  But every once in a while, it all seems to fall into place for a few minutes.
