In the yoga class on 7/28 we learned that the backbend in the sun salutation should come from the L5S1 area as opposed to a sway in the spine. Is there a picture or diagram in 8 steps or elsewhere that you could recommend to demonstrate this?

Hi Tim,
A really great example of someone back-bending from L5-S1 is B.K.S. Iyengar. Esther often shows photographs of him in backbends and other yoga poses which are in line with the Gokhale Method. Although some of his extreme backbends are not to be attempted by many, they are easy to find though Google images or books on Iyengar. When scrutinized, it is apparent that he is initiating his bend from L5-S1 and that is back is quite straight from that point upward.
