Exactly where is the L5 S1 joint in relation to the hip bones? I want to make sure I am focusing on the right place. I see pictures of spines and see where it is, but on my body, I'm not sure where it is.\
thx

Hi L K,
A way I think is useful to find where the L5S1 joint is is to form your hand into a "C" shape then take your hand around behind your back and put your fingertips at the top of your butt crack and then your thumb should be at about L5S1. So it's quite low down, and then I can feel with my thumb when I tip my pelvis forward and back that this is where the joint is.
For me it's much easier to find this way than coming round the side from the hips, and trying to work out how high it is in comparison.
Hope this helps,

OK. So if I'm doing this correctly, it is about in-line with the 2 bony protrusions in the back of the pelvis? It is also a little tender to press around this region?

Yes, I find it is a little more tender to press right in the joint than anywhere else. (I don't really have bony protrusions showing though!)
