Sitting on a chair backwards

Sometimes you see old people in my country (Spain) in the bars sitting on the chairs backward while they are playing cards or watching TV.

I also do it sometimes; turn the chair and seat that way. It i feels more confortable to me... altough it will look strange in many situations.

I have put 2 photos. Not the best chair for sitting like this!!! A simpler chair without arms and narrower will be better.

What do you think about "backwards sitting"?

Gracias,

Ramon

HI Ramon,

Depending on the chair, sitting backwards can help you sit up well, gives you a different angle to stretch (from the front), and it does encourage external rotation of the legs, which is good.  The biggest downfall I see is that it is difficult to do anything without letting your shoulders slump forward.  Keeping them rolled back is difficult in that position, expecially given the height of the back of the chair.  Therefore, I think it is still better to add a wedge to the chair and sit forward facing.

Suerte,
