Recommend a car with a good seat?

I'll be in the market soon for a new car.  And now that I know about the Gokhale Method, I've noticed I'm not happy with too many car seats I ever sit in.  Mostly I hate the way the seat part cuts into the back of my calves when I sit the correct way.  Does anyone know of certain makes and/or models that have decent seats that aren't so doggone deep?

Thanks!

Greetings and thank you for your question regarding car seats.  Esther wrote a lovely Blog post that should go into detail regarding the reasons and types of car seats.  You can find it here:

In general, you want a seat that is L shaped and not bucket like.  This way you can get your behind behind you.  Also a back that is relatively straight and not winged, so that your shoulders can be rolled back.

Avoid lumbar support pillows or adjusters that push into the lumbar.  BMW and Volvo add this feature.  This is a good example of a Fiat 500 seat that meets many requirements.  Good luck!

I think there is no perfect car seat but the best thing to get is a seat that can be adjusted for your body.  I have trouble sitting in seats that dip down in the back because they cause my back to curve in a "C," which causes pain.

I recommend the Subaru Forester because the roof is high enough that you can adjust the seat with cushions and not hit the roof.  I make my back comfortable with 3 cushions: one thin cushion fills in the back of the seat where most seats dip down; one cushion fills in the back of the seat so my back can be straight  and not hit the neck rest; finally I add the Gokhale cushion so I can anchor my back.

I am 5"5 inches with fairly short legs and the seat is not too deep for me.

Give the Subaru Forester a test.  It is better than the other mini-SUVs.
