After trying stretchlying on the back my elbows feel skin burn and I don't get the impression that there is a space in my lower back area. I keep reading my bow and looking at the illustation but it confuses me. I have a short back. Is untucking the pelvis more difficult when you have a short back?

Sometimes digging the elbows in too harshly can irritate the skin. If the bed/sheets are soft enough, this isn't usually a problem. If you are doing this on a yoga mat or on carpet or hardwood, then the elbows can feel a bit compromised for some people. I wouldn't worry too much about untucking the pelvis when you first begin-let lengthening your spine be your first priority. Pushing down toward the hips/feet with the traction of your elbows and then lowering each vertebrae down should do the trick. Once you feel comfortable with this technique, then you can try and "block" the pelvis from tucking as you lower down. If you need further help, might I suggest checking out our DVD, Back Pain: The Primal Posture Solution. Esther does an excellent job of instructing students how to Stretchlie properly. Or, better yet, see if there is a class close to you.
