Years ago, when I first went to physical therapy after having an awful problem with my lower back. They taught be how to bend by using one leg and sort of swinging the other back. This works well and puts no pressure on the back, but as I have learned it does nothing to help strengthen the back, nor does it do anything to keep the hamstrings flexible. It only helped me progress in the direction of not using my body and toward greater atrophy. Now, that I have discovered hip hinging. I am loving every time I need to pick something up! It means I get this fantastic stretch in my hamstrings which feels wonderful and I can feel all the little muscles near my spine and abdomen engaging and getting stronger. It's been a wonderful discovery for me.
