I'm a student from China. I'm also a fan of your book and theory. Two years ago, when I was doing strength exercises in a gym, I hurt my back because of my carelessness and wrong method of using my muscle. From then on, I often suffered from back pain in my daily life. What's worse, one year later, when I was writing my dissertation, because of the heavy work, I had to sit for hours to finish it in order to catch the deadline and my back pain got much more serious. It hurt so much that I even could not be sitting for more than half an hour. I went to hospital and the doctor told me I had a herniated disk (L5/S1) and the situation was quite bad. I tried every way to cure it, except for an surgery operation. But none of these methods worked. I was so desperate at that time. Then I met your book 8 Steps to a Pain-Free back and it gave me a silver light .
I have read your book and watched your video for many times. I bought the cushion you recommended from your website. Your method is really unique, efficient and fantastic. It significantly helped me decrease my pain. I think I have fully understood your method. However, when I practice it, I have some issues which I hope you could help me with.
I'm a tall male adult. Like most tall guys, I have a quite serious rounded back. When I was a teenage, I was often criticized by my parents for that reason but I didn't pay enough attention. To my surprise, When I tried to reach the healthy posture you suggested, rounded back became the prime obstacle. Since I have a rounded back for as long as 10 years (now I'm 26 years old), it seems my back, especially thoracic vertebra, is settled. I put my pelvis on the right position like what you presented in the book, but my back curves so much that my head have no other choice but to stretches out to the front. I want to stand erectly but I can't make it because of the rounded back. I don't know what to do and I can't find any solutions about how to solve the rounded back problem in your book or video. Can you give me some guidance? Thank you very much.

I'm not Esther, but I am one the Gokhale teachers, hopefully my comments will do for now. It sounds like you have had very good results working on your own with the book. Good work!. From your photo I am not seeing terribly excessive rounding at all. It may look like there is some from the side because of the muscullture of the upper back. I can't tell unless a) I come to China or b) you send a picture from behind so I can see your spine. Your neck looks pretty good. Do you see in the photo how the back of the neck is straight and tall and very upright? Maybe just dropping the chin slightly will change your perspictive on this part.
