Do you think there is any value in seeing a chiropractor for back pain?

It depends on what the problem is. In case of bony displacement due to trauma, a good chiropractor can be very valuable. If the displacements are because of soft tissue pulling on bone (going "out" in chiropractor lingo), then you need to address the soft tissue issue. It may be helpful to get a couple of adjustments alongside working on restructuring your body (guess which my favorite approach for this is...), but I think frequent chiropractic adjustments are problematic. Apart from the time and resource issue, I think routine chiropractic can result in laxity of the ligaments, leaving patients vulnerable to subsequent problems.  There are a great variety of chiropractors out there - I like ones that do a traditional adjustment, take time to prepare the body for the adjustment (massage / manipulation), don't try to sign you up for annual plans and don't dabble in X-rays, supplements and bizarre treatments. I look to use them occasionally and am very grateful they have the skills they practice.
