Back Belts

Esther,

I have bulge in my L5-S1 and I remember in one of the posture sessions, you recommended wearing a back belt. Could you please tell me if there is any specific belt you recommend. There are a lot out there to choose from. The below one has good reviews:

Does it look good to you to be used in order to maintain stretch sitting and walking?

Thanks,
Reshu

The best back belt I have seen was this one, worn by a patient of mine. it believe you need to get it through a medic. Here are the details he emailed me:

I believe the back support brace I was given is made by
Orthomerica Products, Inc.  In any event,  the person who brought it
to me in the hospital was :  Justin H. Foster,CPO and he is with
Center for Independent Rehabilitive Services, 590 Forest Ave., Palo
Alto, CA 94301, tel. 650-462-0102  Pgr/Vm 650-424-7001.

Alternately a simpler one from a medical supply store with velcro patches (make sure there are three, not just one) will be helpful.

You shouldn't need a belt when stretchsitting as the action itself tractions your back. But the belt will be good for stacksitting, standing and walking. be sure you don't use the belt all the time and let your abdominal muscles get weak. To the extent possible, use your inner corset muscles to give you the same traction the belt gives. Use the belt only when you run out of steam using your inner corset.

That's helpful. Thanks Esther.

Could you tell me what's the difference between stretch-sitting and stack-sitting?

Thanks,

Stretchsitting is when you're lengthened against a backrest (Chapter 1 in 8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back); stacksitting (Chapter 3 in 8 Steps) is when you are away from the backrest and don't have an external object stretching your back.
