Achilles tendon pain
Hi,
My boyfriend has changed type of shoes almost a year ago, from sneakers to flat sole (Vibram five fingers and Terra Plana shoes), to get the posture as good as possible. Unfortunately, in the last few weeks his Achilles tendons are playing up a bit: have you got any suggestions of what could be the cause of this? We have noticed he walks with his knees facing forward, rather rotated externally, other than that his posture is very good.
Thank you for your help.
Regards,
Serena

Flat shoes (no heel) may be too much of a stretch (literally) for him right now. If his Achilles tendon is tight (and pronated feet are an additional clue that this may be the case), a small heel compensates for that and may be necessary for extended walks for now. I would advise him to revert to a heeled shoe and work on stretching his calf muscles (leaving his heels on the ground well into his stride is the most effective way of doing this) until the barefoot shoes work for him.
