Yes, swimming is very beneficial when done properly. The Inner Corset (chapter 5 of 8 Steps) is important in swimming because you want to stay very stable and strong in the torso even as you move your arms and legs. People often arch their backs too much doing breaststroke or backstroke and twist too much doing freestyle/crawl. Avoid these problem by using those deep abdominal and back muscles to stabilize the area, as describes in the Inner Corset chapter, so that you move the whole torso as one piece.
