Lower Trapezius

I had some shoulder/neck problems before and now it's coming back after returning for graduate school and carrying a backpack.  I was guessing that it might be my upper trapezius muscles since those muscles near the neck have been extremely tight.  I read that workign my lower trapezius would help, I can't seem to find many exercises targeting this area though.

So, is this the right part to exercise?

And what exercises should I do?

I think the most important thing is to not tighten up your upper traps excessively in countering the weight of the backpack. let the backpac gently stretch your upper traps instead.

My favorite exercises for all the muscles around the shoulder area are dance moves. Depressing the shoulder blades in a dampened pulsing way to a good reggae beat would be a good start. Does that suit you?
