Swing Into Alignment

About this workshop

We’re excited to offer our Swing into Alignment course! If you’ve completed Gokhale Elements or Gokhale Foundations, this course gives you the chance to revisit and deepen the techniques you’ve learned—while having fun with music and movement.

You’ll be introduced to swing dance, integrating Gokhale Method principles into more dynamic and joyful motion. Learning posture and movement while dancing helps you build new neural pathways, improve coordination, and embody the techniques with greater ease, adaptability, and confidence.

Why Dance?

Dance goes beyond ordinary exercise. Research shows it can:

  • Ease depression more effectively than walking, yoga, or standard treatments (National Geographic)
  • Provide cardiovascular benefits similar to running (Northeastern Global News).
  • Coordinating rhythm, balance, spatial awareness, and social connection strengthens the brain, may slow cognitive decline, and builds new neural pathways. Moving in sync with others also fosters social bonding and a sense of connection (Psychology Today).

In short, dance strengthens body, mind, and community making it a perfect way to bring Gokhale Method principles to life.

Why Swing Dance?

Swing dance naturally mirrors Gokhale Method principles. Watch vintage footage of Lindy Hop dancers from the 1920s and 1930s and you'll notice something striking: their posture is remarkably healthy. Soft knees, behind behind, torso angled forward, spine mostly straight. These dancers moved with a grounded ease that most modern bodies have lost.

Learning these moves today helps you reconnect with a way of moving that supports your body rather than straining it. Plus, better posture makes you a better dancer! Swing dance and the Gokhale Method are a natural partnership—each makes the other easier and more enjoyable.

What You’ll Gain

We are confident that over 6 weekly, 55-minute lessons, you will:

  • Learn to use healthier posture and movement automatically, becoming more relaxed and comfortable in your body.
  • Improve your standing, walking, inner corset engagement, hip-hinge, and balance while cultivating greater softness and ease.
  • Establish sustainable, healthy movement habits through consistent dance practice – while enjoying swing music, dance, and history along the way.
  • Experience the mood-lifting, stress-reducing power of moving to music in a supportive group setting.

At the end of the course you will be ready to perform a short group choreography which - optionally - you will have an opportunity to perform during a 1-2-3 Move session.

No dance experience necessary. All you need is a willingness to move, have fun, and let your body learn something new.
