rib anchor
I seem to need the rib anchor to keep my back from swaying when I'm trying to keep my shoulders further back than their norm. Should I (or anyone) keep the rib anchor engaged all the time?

Yes, use your rib anchor as much as you need it to keep your back from swaying. Pretty soon, you will develop more tone in your rib anchor muscles (mainly the internal obliques) so you won't have to consciously contract the muscles all the time. Doing a few of the rib anchor strengthening exercises in the back of the 8 steps book will accelerate this process. Rolling your shoulders back in place and anchoring your ribcage simultaneously can be tricky - it's like pulling on both ends of a bungee cord at once. Keep working on both ends, though I would prioritize the rib anchor.
