Mechanical operation and sitting positions

Hi Esther,

The video of you sitting in the chair appears to show your body at a slightly rearward angle (with neck forward from the upper torso)rather than what I would have expected, a 180 degree position to the floor (a sitting straight up position).  Assuming I'm correct in that the body is not perfectly perpendicular to the floor, does this mean the rear structure (against which the back would be resting) "gives" upon seating against it?  If so, can it be adjusted or tightened if necessary? Stacksitting in the chair would render a position perpendicular, however, stretchsitting would probably incur some pressure against the back of the chair and I'm wondering how one would compensate for that--I couldn't view a mechanism on the chair that would allow that.  I currently have an office chair that resembles the one you have that is cloth covered which helps to position the stretchsitting as well as allowing for my rear to move under the back rest (antiverted pelvis?)--it's comfortable enough but your chair appears to be better designed for achieving the correct seating position.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Bob

PS: I enjoyed your class tonight (4/19) and appreciate the "non-slick" business approach used to promote your method and products--I'm impressed and expect to remain so with what I've witnessed thus far.  If I'm correct, you will have provided an incredibly valuable legacy and we'll all be thankful for that.

Hi Bob!

We're so glad that you appreciate our approach to business. Our mission is to make back-pain rare. There are enough people out there with pain that the business side of things flows naturally. No need to push products or services that people don't need!

The back of our chair is meant to give against the back (it's foam), and a slight backward lean during stretchsitting isn't an issue. What you want to guard against is swaying the back and/or letting the ribs flare out.

If you'd like more or firmer cushioning behind your back, you could add a stretchsit cushion over the top, or email [email protected] about the possibility of customization.

If you take a look at this blog post, you'll get an idea of what Esther thought were essential ingredients when she designed the chair, so you know what to look for in reseraching other chairs.
