Had a herniated disc years ago - can I follow the chapters in order?

Hi!

About 4 years ago, I had a herniated disc (L5/S1). I had excrutiating pain for 6 weeks, but then it healed enough to stop hurting. While my lower back may still stiffen after gardening or bending, there's no pain at this point.

I 'm just starting to read 8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back, and I saw that you caution those with a herniated disc to postpone Lessons 3, 4, and 7. I was wondering if you mean anyone who has ever suffered from a lower-lumbar herniated disc, or if you mean people who have injured it fairly recently.  I'm not sure whether I should do the chapters in order or if I, too, should hold off on Lessons 3, 4, and 7.

Thanks for your help!

It's better to be conservative and spend some time first lengthening your spine before you try to reshape it (using the modified chapter order). I always prefer for people to get hands on help when they have herniated discs in their history. It's safer and you'll learn it better. If you are working on your own, wait till you are very confident with your back before proceeding past the lengthening techniques.
