Question regarding chair
I have a question regarding my chair: I own a Herman Miller Aeron chair, as shown in the picture, because i was able to get it very cheap but in very good condition. So I wanted to know if you have any experience with these chairs or think you can tell from the picture if i could perform stretchsitting on this chair. greetings Patrick

Hi Patrick,

We do have some experience with this chair.  It is not the easiest thing to Stretchsit on the Herman Miller, but it is indeed possible.  Here are some tips.

1. Make sure you can scoot all the way to the back of the chair and still have your feet on the ground and your knees freely bent.

2. Since the seat angles slightly back, I would put a towel/sheet/folded blanket towards the back of the seatpan to make it level.

3. Lock the back so it doesn't lean at all.

4. Attach a Stretchsit cusion using the extension cord it comes with, or create a Stretchsit implement with a towel/sheet/blanket (you may have to be creative to keep it in place, using tape or a bungee, or draping it over the top somehow).

5. Follow the steps to Stretchsitting as described in 8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back, or if you already know how to do it from a free workshop or GMF course.

6. Pay attention to the arm rests.  They want to be low enough that they don't hunch your shoulders, nor too far forward so as to pull your shoulders forward.

7. Make sure your desk is at a level where you can scoot all the way in to reach your keyboard (sometimes this can be tricky due to the arm rests).

These things should help.  If you are getting stuck, or the chair is not working for your desk or height, then it's not bad for Stacksitting, where you sit toward the front of the seat.  It has decent downward slope to help tip or "antevert" your pelvis properly.  Personally I need to use a cushion to Stacksit on the Aeron since it can get a little bit hard for my taste.  When Stacksitting, it's usually not a bad idea to raise the seat higher so your legs can angle downward which helps encourage pelvic anteversion.

I hope this is helpful to you!
