Babies don\u0027t like sleeping on their backs, though they can get used to it. He is only 2.5 months old so we have him on the front in an ErgoBaby. His spine is definitely compressed but he needs to sleep! Why does everyone claim that they need to have a rounded back? I wish I could understand this because the idea of him having hip displacement, etc is scary.) and has slept six+ hours in the night ever since. We have an organic mattress, however. I read that in New Zealand the SIDS campaigning was not about back sleeping but in putting a plastic covering over the mattresses because off-gasing is a purported cause of SIDS (hence the increased rate with stomach-sleeping). Apparently SIDS is extremely low or non-existent there.
